Greek Golden Visa: Increased number of applications in the first months of 2022

Far from the record of year 2019, despite the increase in the number of applications in the first months of 2022, remains the Greek Golden Visa program. The drop is directly related to the pandemic and the restrictive measures in travelling and has affected mostly the Chinese. Up until now they hold the undisputed lead with a percentage of more than 65% in obtaining a Greek Golden Visa. According to the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the total residence permits of investors (initial and renewals) valid in March 2022 amount to 11.049. The main investors in Greece are Chinese nationals (65,4%), Turkish nationals (6,4% and Russians (6,2%). Out of the 2.372 initial residence permit applications submitted between March 2021 and March 2022, 46% have been issued corresponding to 1.080 initial investor residence permits issued.

At the same time, 4.049 initial applications were submitted and 2.062 licenses were issued (51%) for the members of the investor family. From the 717 applications submitted for renewal of residence permit in the period March 2021 and March 2022, a total of 40% has been renewed, which corresponds to 290 renewals of residence permits while 1.184 renewal applications were submitted and 573 licenses were renewed (48%) for the members of the investor family. During the 9 years of the Greek Golden Visa program, through which foreign nationals obtain residence permits in the country after investments of at least 250.000 euros in real estate or investment term programs such as bonds and shares, is estimated to have brought direct income over 2,5 billion through real estate investments.
