Paros was known, in antiquity, for its marbles (Paria Lithos) which decorated great monuments. The most important masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture, such as Hermes of Praxiteles, Aphrodite of Milos, Niki of Samothrace, Niki of Paeion and the Caryatides, were carved in the almost transparent Parian marble. After all, some of the most famous sculptors, painters and poets of ancient Greece come from Paros. The island is accessible by both sea and air transport.
