Cosmopolitan and famous for its wonderful natural landscapes, beautiful beaches and nightlife, Skiathos island, part of the Sporades archipelagos is situated in the northwest Aegean Sea. Among them, Skiathos is the closest island to mainland.

Recognised as one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, birthplace of the well-known writer Alexandros Papadiamantis, the island impresses with its dense vegetation and blue-green beaches with fine sand and white pebbles. The beach of Koukounaries, Megali Ammos, Banana and Lalaria are just some of the approximately 60 beaches that adorn the island.

At the same time, it is an island with a strong traditional character with many attractions, including Byzantine and medieval monuments. Among the most famous sights are the Old Castle, Bourtzi, the Medieval Town and the Holy Monastery of Evangelistria, where in 1807 the first Greek flag was designed, woven and raised by Nikotsaras, one of the inmost leaders of the klephts (amratolous), Captain Giannis Stathas and the Abbot Nifonas.

It is an extremely popular summer holiday destination for Greeks and foreigners with its enchanting cobbled pedestrian streets, white houses and picturesque harbour. The island is accessible by both sea and air transport.
